04.12.2010: Lillehammer - Morgenstern wins the Competition
Morgenstern led by 1.9 points after the first jump but needed to remain fully focused to see off the challenge of Johan Remen Evensen and Tom Hilde. The Norwegian pair kept up the pressure with strong jumps in the final round but Morgenstern booked his place at the top of the podium with a composed 137.5-meter leap.
The Austrian notched a total of 284.1 points over two rounds. Evensen picked up 276.9 points, and Hilde 272.8. Morgenstern, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, tops the World Cup leaderboard after three events with 225 points. Fellow Austrian Andreas Kofler was second with 200, followed by Ville Larinto of Finland with 172.
Statements:
Thomas Morgenstern (AUT): “It’s a great feeling being on top again. I already had the chance to win three times this season. In the first competition Andreas was a little bit better, in Kuopio I made little mistakes but this time it worked. It’s even nicer that it was also enough to capture the yellow leaders’ bib.”
Johan Remen Evensen (NOR): “It is nice to jump good on the home hill. It’s also great that Tom is one the podium with me and nine Norwegians reached the final round. We will see exciting competitions in the future.”
Tomorrow there will be the second Competition. On Sportsplanet you can follow all the Jumps in our Live Ticker, and for sure we also have our new Statistic Service for you:
